Leicestershire DAAT Rutland DAAT
Leicestershire & Rutland DAAT's aim is to work in partnership with others to help people resist drug misuse, support communities with drug-related issues, find treatment for those in need and help stop the supply of illegal drugs.

There are a wide range of drug and alcohol services available in Leicestershire and Rutland;
 
Services which are available to individuals with drug/alcohol problems and their carers include:

TURNING POINT

Turning Point hosts two drugs and alcohol services in Leicestershire, located in the Charnwood and North West Leicestershire areas.

NHS COMMUNITY DRUG TEAM (CDT)

Hosted by Leicestershire Partnerships NHS Trust, the CDT is a specialist drugs service which provides:

  • medical/clinical services for drug users
  • substitute prescribing
  • detoxification treatment
  • counselling/psychology services
  • vaccinations for blood borne viruses
  • other associated healthcare related support for drug users

The CDT is not a direct, open access service, but will accept clients who are referred by other agencies, namely LCPT, Turning Point, your GP, and other statutory services. The CDT operates from centres in Leicester City and Loughborough, at the following locations:

CRIMINAL JUSTICE DRUGS TEAM (CJDT)

The CJDT provides drug treatment and related support, alongside offender management, for individuals in the criminal justice system. This includes individuals who are under court orders and those who have entered the criminal justice system via arrest referral from police custody suites.

The services offered by the CJDT include:

  • assessment and support in police custody suites and courts
  • one-to-one counselling support
  • offender management programmes 
  • medical/clinical services (including substitute prescribing)
  • groupwork programmes
  • complementary therapies
  • access to detoxification and residential rehabilitation services
  • programmes for stimulant users and recreational users
  • prison in-reach services
  • assertive outreach services
  • access to housing related advice and support
  • access to education, training and employment opportunities
  • 24 hour helpline

ADDACTION

Addaction Leicestershire provides assessments for drug treatment and related support to individuals in police custody suites, courts and prison, as part of the overall Criminal Justice Drugs services.

PRIMARY/SHARED CARE DRUGS SERVICES

A number of GP’s are involved in providing substitute prescribing and associated healthcare support to drug users in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. GP’s are supported in their work by drugs workers from the CDT.

THE DAWN CENTRE

The Dawn Centre, which is based in Leicester City centre, provides temporary residential and associated services (including healthcare services) to homeless/vulnerably housed individuals, including those with drug/alcohol issues. Services available include:

  • housing advice and support
  • day services, including food and drink, showers, washing and laundry facilities
  • drug treatment and associated support
  • healthcare services, including general health checks, sexual health/ contraceptive services, vaccinations and acupuncture

NEW FUTURES
 
New Futures is a Leicester City based project which offers a non-judgemental and confidential service for sex workers. The project provides advice and information, counselling support and referral into drug/alcohol treatment services, along with outreach support to sauna workers and males involved in sex work. New Futures also provides a base for other agencies to offer help and support to the client group, including medical and sexual health services, needle exchange services and housing support services.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS (AA)

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship based on the 12 Step philosophy that helps people with alcohol dependency problems.

  • Groups at least twice a day - daytime and evening
  • Various different styles / groups / places / times designed  to meet different needs

SUGA LOUGHBOROUGH

SUGA provide a Drop-In service based on the 12-Step programme for people in recovery from, or wishing to gain recovery from, alcohol and drug use. They also provide a person-centred counselling service offering one-to-one sessions.
