Drug and Alcohol Action Teams

The first edition of Leicestershire DAAT and Rutland DAAT Drug & Alcohol News is now availble to download and provides updates on current activities being conducted by the DAAT and initiatives underway by our Service Providers and Partner Agencies.

Turning Point hosts two drugs and alcohol services in Leicestershire, located in the Charnwood and North West Leicestershire areas.

Turning Point is a direct, open access service and is based at the following locations:

The CDT is not a direct, open access service, but will accept clients who are referred by other agencies, namely LCPT, Turning Point, your GP, and other statutory services. The CDT operates from centres in Leicester City and Loughborough, at the following locations:

The CJDT provides drug treatment and related support, alongside offender management, for individuals in the criminal justice system. This includes individuals who are under court orders and those who have entered the criminal justice system via arrest referral from police custody suites.

Addaction Leicestershire provides assessments for drug treatment and related support to individuals in police custody suites, courts and prison, as part of the overall Criminal Justice Drugs services.

The Anchor Centre, managed by LCPT, is a day service for drug/alcohol users and particularly targets individuals who are vulnerably housed. The Anchor Centre includes the following services and facilities:

A number of GP’s are involved in providing substitute prescribing and associated healthcare support to drug users in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. GP’s are supported in their work by drugs workers from the CDT.

The Dawn Centre, which is based in Leicester City centre, provides temporary residential and associated services (including healthcare services) to homeless/vulnerably housed individuals, including those with drug/alcohol issues. Services available include:

NEW FUTURES

New Futures is a Leicester City based project which offers a non-judgemental and confidential service for sex workers. The project provides advice and information, counselling support and referral into drug/alcohol treatment services, along with outreach support to sauna workers and males involved in sex work. New Futures also provides a base for other agencies to offer help and support to the client group, including medical and sexual health services, needle exchange services and housing support services.

Alcohol Services

Turning Point Leicestershire is a drugs and alcohol service based primarily in the Charnwood and North West Leicestershire areas.

Hosted by Leicestershire Partnerships NHS Trust, the CAT is a specialist alcohol service which provides

- one to one counselling and psychology services
- detoxification treatment
- associated healthcare related support

The CAT is not a direct, open access service, but will accept clients who are referred by other agencies, namely LCPT, Turning Point, your GP, and other statutory services. The CAT is located at:

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship based on the 12 Step philosophy that helps people with alcohol dependency problems.

SUGA provide a Drop-In service based on the 12-Step programme for people in recovery from, or wishing to gain recovery from, alcohol and drug use. They also provide a person-centred counselling service offering one-to-one sessions.

Your GP can offer you help and refer you to local alcohol services such as the NHS Community Alcohol Team (CAT).

The New Directions Team (based within LCPT) provide advice, information and support to young people (aged Under 18) who are experiencing problems using alcohol or drugs.

Advice and support for carers – family children, friends who are affected by drug and alcohol use.

Support includes national and local groups, meetings and telephone-based support

Offers support and information to families and others who are affected by someone else's alcohol and drug use.

Provides help, information and support for children and young people with issues related to domestic violence – whether they are currently living with violence, have experienced violence in the past or if they know someone else going through it and are looking for help and information
