Workforce
Invitation to Tender:
The LLR Training Consortium are currently inviting expressions of interest to tender, from agencies/individuals who are interested in delivering a range of training courses, to professionals in the drug treatment sector.
The process is being led by the LLR Training Consortium.
The local LLR Workforce Development Partnership have concentrated their efforts in providing a local and regional infrastructure to support attainment of the National Treatment Agency (NTA) 2008 targets for Workforce Development.
Working with the support of the Regional NTA at GOEM the following programmes are now active:
- NVQ 3 (Health and Social Care) and A1 assessor training. The training programme commenced in February 2007.
- A national management training award, from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) at Level 3 will be available locally from June 07.
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) pathways for professional groups working in the substance misuse field have undergone a qualification and skills scoping exercise. LLR now offers a number of training opportunities that fit into these pathways.
- LLR has supported the formation of a local training consortium to deliver on a number of training programmes. The consortia will be providing commissioned training from October 2007 with a particular focus on training needs arising from the Models of Care Project.
- Leicester University provide both a Foundation Degree and Certificate, Diploma and Masters Degree in Drug and Alcohol Counselling. See links for details.

Local Strategy
Underpinning the delivery of a high quality local treatment system is an effective and trained workforce, the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland DAATs (LLR DAATs) oversee a local Workforce Development Group which, during 2006-07, have concentrated their efforts in providing a local and regional infrastructure to support the attainment of the NTA national targets for workforce development.

The treatment of drug users in shared care arrangements is well rehearsed within LLR. This treatment modality is mediated by an agreed protocol. Treatment expertise and risk is shared between primary care and a specialised drug service. This usually involves some arrangement for specialist drug workers having close and regular contact with drug users and their GP. Regional Developments in Primary Care
The East Midlands National Treatment Agency have recently set up a Primary Care Leads group, which meets on a quarterly basis at the Government Office East Midlands in Nottingham. The purpose of these meetings is to:
- increase the capacity of good quality primary care drug treatment
- facilitate information exchange
- share good practice, and analyse the impact of future policy and developments in the field
- build a picture of primary care drug treatment services in the East Midlands region
