About DAAT

The Government established the Drug Action Teams in 1995. Their purpose is to ensure the strategic co-ordination of local action against drug misuse.

Since January 1998 Drug Action Teams have been pursuing the National Strategy updated in 2002, laid out in the Government's 'Tackling Drugs'. This has four broad aims:

  • YOUNG PEOPLE: To help young people resist drug misuse in order to achieve their full potential in society;
  • COMMUNITIES: Protecting communities from drug-related anti-social and criminal behaviour;
  • TREATMENT: To enable people with drug problems to overcome them and live healthy and crime-free lives;
  • STIFLING AVAILABILITY: To stifle the availability of illegal drugs.

There are three Drug and Alcohol Action Teams locally, defined by the geographical areas that they cover:

  • Leicester
  • Leicestershire
  • Rutland
